Ever dreamed of crossing an ocean? How about sailing to Africa!
after making our way across the Atlantic, we find ourselves at the doorstep of a new continent to visit on our cruising adventure.
Getting Ready to Return to the Boat
We flew home to visit our family over Christmas, but now the time is coming for us to return to the boat.
We, as usual, are flying with many weird items that we feel are important that we transport.
These items are:
New Dodger
Replacement Electric Motor
Replacement Electric Motor Controller
Wet Suits
SCUBA gear
All our Camera Equipment
Some of these items are necessary to repair or replace our gear on the boat, and some of these items are the result of Christmas Gifts!
Either way, now we have all this large and odd cargo that we need to get into our suitcases so we can take it back to the boat.
At the beginning of our trips to the States to visit family, the end of the trip always seems so far away and so dreaded. We enjoy seeing everyone and visiting with old friends. Then time passes and we seem to get a hankering to get on a plane and fly back to the boat. This itchy feeling that we have spent enough time here and we need to get on the move again overcomes me and drives me to go.
I wonder if this is a result of knowing that the visit is coming to an end or if I just am used to always being on the move. In our sailing lives, we get somewhere and enjoy that place deeply. Then one day, we wake up and are ready to go, so we raise anchor and leave!
I wonder if when we finally sail back to the states, will that feeling still exist in me? Will I settle down somewhere only to get that hankering to go again? Will I then feel stuck or trapped?
Getting ready to go!
My parents have returned to the states bringing out mini vacation to an end. Now we are working hard getting the boat ready to keep sailing on into the Mediterranean Sea!
Adventures on Boats
I have taken over managing a new website and I wanted to share it with you all here!
Yes, this does mean extra work for me, but I do enjoy writing and creating content. My job has transitioned from being a dentist on land to be a YouTuber and Blogger at anchor. The joys of this shift in profession is it lets me work from anywhere which means we are free to journey the world by sail and explore all sorts of new lands.
Doing so with our electric motor means that we have no fuel costs and we do a great job at keeping our own costs down, meaning that the meager income we make from all our creative outlets is enough to fund our travels and keep us going!
Adventures on Boats is a website that helps people get through all the stages of Boating.
There is a wonderful section that is geared towards someone who doesn’t have a boat yet. Then the next phase will be once you have a boat and need to learn how to do everything on it. The last section is for those who want to shove off from their ties to land and venture off on a cruising adventure.
Rigging Doctor is more focused on living on a sailboat and synthetic standing rigging, while Adventures on Boats is more focused on the journeys and travels that you can have on your sailboat.
I'm Back!
Hello everyone!
Sorry for having been rather sporadic in my posting schedule, or rather completely failing to post to the blog entirely during the month of August.
I’ve had some time to grieve over Sammy and I am now able to get back to doing what I enjoy and find joy in doing what I love.
The blog posts will once again resume their usual daily posting.
To be completely upfront with the technicalities of the blog. When I move between countries and time zones, I am not entirely certain that my blogs come out at the right time. I aim for having them publish at 9am EST, but that might be off by an hour or a few because I may not have the proper time entered into the scheduling program.
See, it was easy to maintain this schedule when I lived in the same state and time zone as the blog. I would write on my computer and schedule it to publish at 9am. Done! Now, we are back and forth between Maryland and Portugal and the time difference is about 5 hours. Throw in Daylight Savings Time and I am totally confused…
So, if the post shows up early or late, just know that I am intending for it to publish at 9am EST.
